Officially
designated as being among the most beautiful in
America, the Panhandle's sugar sand beaches
stretch for miles. This is a land of contrasts -
cosmopolitan in the urban areas and overwhelmingly
rural in the countryside that spans them. Today,
private industry is diversifying what has been,
historically, a military-based economy. Like the rest
of the state, the Panhandle has frenetic gulfside
communities, but fewer of them and more white
pristine beaches without a hint of high rise
buildings.
